Greetings,
My name is Randi Caldwell and I am writing on behalf of Arcata Main Street.

Arts! Arcata is a monthly celebration of visual and performing arts, held the second Friday of each month at more than 30 participating locations throughout Arcata. Participating venues display local artwork every month usually with accompanying music and wine to raise money for local non-profits. This event is hosted by Arcata Main Street which works to promote and enhance the downtown.

Artists can display artwork in any medium that is reasonably accommodated at the venue. During the event, artists may choose to be present to give talks and mingle, but there is no requirement to be present with artwork at the event.

Participating venues for Arts! Arcata are in need of a resource lists of artists. Some venues find it difficult to secure a new artist every month and Arcata Main Street would like to make a contact list available on the Arts! Arcata website for the venues.

Everyone is encouraged to submit their work, especially professional artists who are new to the field of public art.

If you are interested in being on our contact lists for venues please send us your contact information and photos of artwork to info@arcatamainstreet.com-remember, this will be posted on line and can serve as additional exposure for your art. Specific venues will contact you once your work and contact information is posted to the website at www.artsarcata.com. IF you are an interested musician please send us your contact information, genre of music, number of members, how much you charge, and maybe send a sample of your sounds.

We look forward to your submissions and the chance to make Arts! Arcata an even better event for the community with your art! If you have any questions please feel free to call or email us.

Thank you for your time,
Randi Caldwell

P.S. I am also specifically looking for an artist that could exhibit Outdoor Adventure Art, to be displayed at the Outdoor Store on November 13th, from 6-9, let me know if you are interested or have the contact information for a potential artist.

I know a few years ago (and before that even?) the Arcata chapter was harassed and encountered some legal difficulty. Are they still up and running?

For those of you adventuring to Earthdance this weekend, come join me in an ecstatic awakening of yoga play to start your day Saturday 26, 2009 8-10am in the Purple Star tent. Accessible to all and specifically intentioned for all levels of practice...

Join me and breathe real big, explore motion and pranic energy flow and open into the integral creative consciousness we recognize in each other and cultivate within ourselves. Together our hearts and spirits will grow brighter and brighter as we celebrate our individual uniqueness and full expression within our unifying breath. Come Unity!

It is my pleasure and honor to share yoga with you as we align to our deepest intentions and prepare the body to dance, dance, dance! to the collective pulse of our earth's precious beat. When the body is open and tensions are released, the mind settles down and we truly can relax into our authentic selves; calling presence into play and reflecting the compassionate light of love for each other and mirroring it for ourselves. Only when we take the opportunity to truly treat ourselves well can we then go out and treat others well...with the unfolding realization that we are not separate.

I will be facilitating a multi-level hatha flow class with modification options for healing support and deepening your practice. Remember... no experience, flexibility or strength required... the intimacy of your yoga, your unifying connection with your body, mind, and spirit is a personal practice and the sequencing, breathwork and relaxation are available to all. If you are healing and working with an active injury, perhaps arrive a little early to connect with me before we get going... it is my utmost intention as a facilitator to keep you safe in your practice and play.
in every sense and with deep seated gratitude, namaste!

On a personal note, the opportunity to share my passion at Earthdance 2000*divine! is the manifestation of dreaming big, speaking my heart's desires and effortlessly trusting this beautiful unfolding process... the joy and gratitude I create and embrace illuminates my heart bright and expands it wide open! Much Mahalo and big love to Oshun Yoga and the Earthdance team. I look forward to connecting with you. om shanti * peace, peace, peace...

It was a sad day when the world lost its King Of Pop. If you ever been to one of my shows, then you know that Michael Jackson has been a staple in my DJ diet since I first started spinning way back in '84. Thus, while I didn't break down and cry, I did feel a sense of loss when I heard the news of his death. I'm old enough to remember The Jacksons doing "Dancing Machine" on Soul Train (see video below) and being blown away by Michael Jackson's moves; he was a true Dancing Machine. And while many people incorrectly credit him with inventing the Moonwalk (it was actually invented by a member of the Rock Steady Crew), I do believe Michael Jackson perfected it, and I still get chills seeing him bust it out during his performance of Billie Jean at the Grammys. He fuckin' killed that shit.

So, as a tribute to (cliche alert!) Michael Jackson's musical legacy, I decided that my show this Saturday @ Pearl Lounge in Eureka is going to be HEAVILY fortified with all kindsa MJ (plus, the Journal fucked up and printed "80's Night"- urrrgh!). Also Twisted Kid DJ Gerber-mizz-ack will be joining me on the wheels of steel that night (HE might break down and cry), and he will be bringing with him his MJ collection. I dunno how deep his goes, but I'll be bringing Jackson 5 albums I forgot I had, as well as some straight Jacksons (the stuff BEFORE Michael went solo), and of course, "Off The Wall, "Thriller" and " BAD" and a slew of remixes and 12".

It's not going to be all MJ all night, of course, but if you're a fan of the man and his music, and you like to dance and merry-make, this is a night you don't want to miss.

That's this Saturday 10pm - 2am @ Pearl Lounge in Old Town EKA. No cover!

All that ooey gooey stuff that is so fun and delicious to watch and do will be focused on, using elements from the head down through to the fingertips. We will be focusing on super slow isolations, extreme undulations, and upper body technique. Hand work, elbow work, wrist work, posture, oblique strengthening (to get that horozontal pull that makes mayas and hip slides so exquiste and strange) , belly rolls with emphasis on stomach musculature. And of course the elusive flutter!

WORKSHOP 2 ~
Fast and Furious Drills
1:00pm-3:00pm

This Workshop will use specific pilates and yoga based exercises to strengthen the core muscles neccesary for backbends, belly rolls, and tight hip work. Hip, head, shoulder and chest isolations will be drilled, as well as working on smoothing transitions from move to move. We will go over lots of pop-lock technique, as well as fluidity of movement, stressing on posture and upper body awareness.
This class is for all levels!

Zoe Jakes
Zoe is quite the sensation.. don't miss her!
$30 for one workshop or $55 for both before June 1 • $35 / $60 after June 1
Workshop includes 1 ticket to the Hafla for you or a friend!
Workshops are at Redwood Raks, 824 L Street, Arcata (Old Creamery Building)

If you have your own lawn weeding equipment, we need some major weeding done in our large back yard. Our yard person seems to have taken off w/out notice, so much so, our neighbor took it upon himself to mow our front yard while we were away over the 4th. We're def. not happy that yard guy hasn't been by in like a month to say the least.

Anyway, I plan on getting equipment in a month or two but right now I know there's no way I can handle the mess out back.

So, here's what we need done regarding back yard work:

1) Clear all weeds

2) Pick up trash and recycling and separate (on side yard).

I'll handle getting the rest of the front back in shape, I know the air has been harsh but our weeds are getting way high in the back.

There are prickly weeds as well as thick bushes, if you know for sure you can handle this job, please reply.

I remember seeing someone post a while back looking for exactly this type of job.

We'd need you to give us an estimate, our yard guy usually charges about $90 for the back yard when its like it is now, could possibly be a lil more for the right person w/regards to the addition of the trash and reycling pick up.

If you do a good job then perhaps there could also be another next month w/regards to the cleaning and organization of a garage.

Let me know and Thanx.

Think: hoola hooping in heels on the plaza, and Free Spankings for Peace signs. Think: powder puff pink wigs and a fierce attitude. I want to hand out flowers to random people this week, and eat fruit in front of Burger King. I've decided that life should be created with amusement and a sense of the ridiculous. I'm not out to protest anything, though I am vegan and very liberal. I just want to show up and rock in my torn fishnets. Are you feeling epic....... Are you jumping from ledges.....
* the jungle of house plants, next to the television, served not only as a good hiding place for hide and seek when you were a kid, but they smelled nice too, especially when they were cut and hung to dry.
* when your parents tried to rid you of lice the "natural way," and none of the herbal remedies worked, they decided that the next best choice was to shave your head... which within it's self is fine, but the photos of you running bare ass naked and completely balled, resembling one of the aliens from Close Encounters, is a keepsake that has been shared with company one too many times!
there are daily occurencess in this village of ours that quickly become the stuff that legends are made of. For truly, things that happen in our little home town, can be obscure, quirky, amazing, funny, awsome, and sorrowful... most are ,more than likely, purely humboldt phenomenons. I like to find the irony and laughter in life... because more often than not, life has a way of kicing in your teeth... so smile while ya still got some left!

Okay... so what is an "Only in Arcata" moment... well some of my examples include...
I recently witnessed a woman chasing a runnaway baby carriage... this was concerning... but not as strange as the man who jumped out of the van that the woman had jumped out of... he looked at me, as I was driving by, like I was some kind of alien...all the while with full out clown face on... red nose and lips and all!

The next day... in the very same spot... an older woman... obviously one of the done tribe.... had all of her worldly belongings spread out in a circle on the sidewalk... as she proceeded to change her clothes...on a busiy corner off Giuntoli Rd.

Years ago... I lived in an apartment with a big back yard. One day, I looked out the back door, and there was a woman? man? not realy sure... sitting on my poarch... with no pants and a sesamy street doll!

Okay... another one... recently witnessed a man trying to open his canned goods ( I think ) by rubbing them against a street curb.

I know that people have even better ones... So give me back an "Only in Arcata" moment

I'm coming up to Arcata to visit for Easter. Bit of a family gathering. I moved up to Arcata in 1975, when I was just a kid, from LA. I went to Arcata High and then left as soon as I could get away from my mother, she's a bit violent! (she just moved to Eureka, to a retirement home of some sort).

Anyhow, I was planning to come up to visit my son, who happens to be attending HSU, and I wanted to scout around for places that might be open to having me give an introductory talk about my play-shops for Trauma Survivors. If anyone is interested, please send me a PM and we'll go from there. I plan to be up in Arcata by the evening of the 22nd, and will stay through at least the middle of that week, if not till the following weekend! Lots of catching up to do in my old stomping grounds!

Posted this in 'listings', but figured it couldn't hurt to post here as well. Let me know if you think so. :)

I am looking for work here in Arcata and figured to put the word out to my fellow Tribbles. :)

Work/Life experience
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am artistically inclined: graduated Art Scholar of my high school ('85), couple quarters in Art Institute of Seattle ('85-'86), but generally 'self taught' exploring art styles and mediums. I Worked for Meng associates architectual firm in Seattle ('87) as an office/architectual assistant: copying and assembling project books; applying press lettering and hand lettering to books and plans; organizing and filing papers, plans and projects; running errands/delivering plans; filled in at front desk on phones and greeting clients; taking messages; doing call backs; typing and filing papers.
I am starting to learn art programs, self teaching on Adobe Illustrator and on Linux's Gimp. May have Photoshop 7 soon! I am excited about this, but need to find a used Wacom or digital artpad I can utilize. I enjoy designing graphics for lettering/logos and draw in styles from cartoon to life drawing. Various projects I have done: graphics for a friend's tattoo, simple story board displays for a friend's screenplay submission, cover art for a friend's local (Ashland) fantasy magazine and art for a friend's Sci-Fi role playing game.
Worked many years in the service industry. Too many restaurants to list, but only one short stint at a 'fast food' restaurant: Dairy Queen('cured' me of ever doing that again), the rest ranged from a family owned restaurant serving traditional Jewish meals and other healthy selections to a fine dining French restaurant.
Various positions: opening prep/setup, line/prep chef, dishwasher, waitstaff, cashier, janitorial, closing.
Play theatres:
Oregon Cabaret Theatre - box office, wait/barback, manager's assistant (seasonally '88-'92)
AHA! Theater - sound/lighting tech, stage manager/poster designer ('94)
Oregon Shakespeare Festival - set shifting: set up and breaking down of sets between shows. ('90&'93)
Movie theaters:
Varsity Theater of Ashland - snackbar/cashier (periodically '88-'92)
Deli/Foodstores:
Ralph's Deli in Seattle - deli prep/server/cashier ('89)
The Good Earth natural foodstore in Fairfax, CA - Cashier - Cashiering/stocking/cleaning ('94)
I have worked as an assistant preschool teacher in Ashland, Oregon:
Kid's House preschool('97-'98)
the YMCA('98-'99)
Headstart('99-2000) preschools. (bus driver and teacher's assistant)
Various duties: daily planning and setting up of activities, snack/meal preparation, routine daily and monthly cleaning projects, logging notable child behavior for consideration, communicating with parents and attending to the overall physical/mental/emotional well being of the children.
I have references for housesitting(+cleaning)/petsitting (aprox. 3-4 yrs experience '01-'06).
Various duties: feeding/walking/playing with animals, taking to vets and administering of medicines/care if needed, plant/garden care, collecting of mail, and doing a thorough cleaning job before clients return, leaving it, usually, more clean than when started.
Have moderate skills with computers, can 'get around' and operate(or easily figure out) most programs(not a 'geek', but recently acquired digital 'books' for many programs and a lot of computer info) and extensive internet and web browser experience. I can offer instruction in these, plus organization and navigation on operating systems.
Have landscaping/carpentry assistance experience: I assisted my mother that owned and operated a landscaping business when I was a teenager and have worked in this field off and on of over the years. I have done many big landscaping projects, just none on my own. I can't say I have the learned knowledge of plants, but I feel an affinity for the work, can follow directions, and if the projects not too big can probably figure it out.
Have assisted friends and family with their carpentry businesses and projects. Basically, I can measure, saw, hammer and lift, just not someone that has enough knowledge to do projects on my own. I am not a professional, so I don't have any major tools, just regular household ones: small hammers, screwdrivers, saw, shovel, pitchfork, hand clippers, gloves, etc.
I have been a part and full time live-in caregiver for friends. Part time was paid through the state of Oregon, full time was purely volunteer with a small stipend for 3-4 months during the summer of '06. Both people for whom I work have moved away, one back to Israel and the other to a caregiving home in Iowa. I may be able to get in touch with the second friend for a reference.
Various duties: meal prep; cleaning (washing of bedding and clothes, bathrooms/kitchens/household, etc.); care of animals; watering plants/garden; going on errands alone and together (food shopping, picking up medications, etc.); taking to appointments (doctors, YMCA, etc.); assisting with entering/exiting of vehicles, wheelchair operation, bathing; organizing cupboards and home; taking out trash and recycling and odd jobs.
Have volunteered with free meal kitchens and food pantries that feed the community and are operating by donation/volunteer work only: Food Not Bombs, Food For People, a variety of other 'free meal' programs in the Ashland area.
Various duties: collecting, sorting and prepping/cooking food, serving food, organizing and storing food in pantries, cleaning of facilities (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, washing/storing dishes, etc.)
No vehicle or driver's license.
Pay/worktrade negotionable.
So, if you feel I could be of any assistance for you or someone you know please contact Skeye at:
Last night's Youth Dialogue should be enough for anyone to realize that Obama is the only choice on the Democratic side.
Hilary should be totally embarrased after obviously showing up both late and tipsy from AZ - I gather she's going to the game on this Sunday before SuperTuesday where Obama and his peeps are out campaigning and getting out the vote. In addition, shortly after she came on, after being late, I noticed more than one minor change in statements he had just made prior to her arrival via Sat. unlike Barack who was there to answer questions "Johnny On the Spot;" granted after the ? started to flow she did a okay job of answering same. I immediately wondered if she was late because she had been reading his ongoing transcript of his comments only minutes before she appeared. Not to say I wouldn't do the same if I were the running mate but I'd def. avoiding quoting and adding on just another level of reality as she did when it came to Students both in/out of college.
However, my ? is this, would you want a Dedicated person such as Obama or another round of Washington As Usual.
Also, Dem's, it's been noted that Hilary has a strong hold on the moderate and conservative pop even here in California - could that be because she at one point and time was President of the Young Republicans at Wesleyan College (see this month's issue of Rolling Stone for article).
Bygonez.
So, will it be a dependable experienced Jr. Senator who avoids Lobbiest and Extreme Campaign donations in favor of most $100 or less donations from folks like ourselves.
Anyway, I'd ask that you really consider the realities facing us here.
Also, remember as you make your decision or even go back and watch a review of the early debates on C-Span where it was she who started the "dirty tactics," oriented campaign until someone had to tell her to "tone it down."
To me the answer is clear & you?
And it's true, "The End Really Is Near" - Vote '08
so we can have a Divine 09 & a world of diplomacy instead of unilateral offense against Nations that have done us no harm nor even have made direct threats. To this end, I encourage all of you to think long and hard the next few days b4 casting your vote this SuperTuesday.
In closing, let me say I'm no angel and I plan on partying quite hard tomorrow night at the show to say the least.
That being said, I'm also not running for President.
About a week ago, my phone stopped being able to make or receive calls at my office which is a block off the plaza. I have to go about 5 blocks away for it to work. My daughter's phone is having similar problems but in slightly different places.
The only truly helpful people I spoke with were the tech help people. I worked with them for a week while they tried reprogramming my phone and checking the towers but nothing worked. Sprint's regular customer service is HORRIBLE!! They are obviously trained to remain calm and steadfast in the face of a really frustrated customer. They want $400 to terminate my contract which doesn't expire until 2009!!! Evil corporation!! The person I spoke with said he had the power to terminate a contract without charging the cancellation fee but he wouldn't do it for me and wouldn't tell me what criteria he uses to make that determination. I'm not sure what can be worse than paying for a service that used to work, is crucial to my business and is not longer functioning.
If you are in the market for cell service...DON'T CHOOSE SPRINT!!
Friday December 21 at our community octagon in Briceland, CA - humboldt co.
gathering @ 6:30 p.m. and casting the circle @ 7:00
Greetings my friends, here we are in the midst of the darkest nights of winter- the Goddess wraps us up in her dark cloak woven with stars- she invites us to journey deep within ourselves- to uncover our truth and trust in our power- here we listen to the voice within and find the wisdom of the ancients telling us our story -- On the longest night Friday Dec 21 we will be gathering yet again to celebrate the winter solstice at our community octagon in Briceland- we will gather @ 6:30 p.m. and casting the circle@ 7:00 - we will create sacred space and sing in the angels- we will give away all that longer serves us in the fire and give birth to ourselves anew- we will call in the returning light and pray for all our relations to find the light within- and we will seal our magick within the sacred geometry of the spiral dance-- come and share with us and let us celebrate the dance of the seasons with ceremony .
OUR POWERFUL AND RARE WINTER SOLSTICE:
THIS FRIDAY/SATURDAY
This is the most powerful Solstice that we've had in
modern or ancient history, so this is BIG and I hope
you take advantage of this information..
The Solstice is when the Sun moves into the sign of Capricorn and our days start getting longer (the return of the SUN/ SON). This Solstice is so rare, that no one knows how long ago this line-up actually last occurred, but we are sure it hasn't happened in the last 26,000 years. This means we have NO DATA on what to expect, so I'm simply giving you my best guess. The line-up for this Solstice is this: the Galactic Center, Pluto, Sun, Jupiter and Mercury all within 6 degrees of each other and opposite Mars retrograde. Talk about a powerhouse! Plus two after the Solstice, on December 23rd, the Moon comes along, joins Mars and covers the Galactic Center in the center of the Sacred Hoop of stars, recognized by the Native Americans. My best guess of what this all means is that we're headed for major evolutionary and transformational growth. It's so big that we might feel like we're getting sucked into the proverbial "black hole." What's the purpose of this growth and transformation? My best guess is that it's what all need to do in order to keep pace with the changing frequency and vibration of the planet. If you're not familiar with planetary ascension, now would be a good time to learn about it. Go to www.whatsuponplanethearth.com or www.duanehenkle.com or www.dianastone.com and discover why Earth is the hot place to be in our galaxy. What to do? One of the best recommendations is to sit quietly during the Solstice and just tune into or drink up the energies. If you do this during this busy weekend, you're likely to get some messages, thoughts, feelings, dreams, or bodily sensations that will give you clues about what to do next. Be sure to follow them. In the Pacific time zone the actual Solstice occurs at 10:09 PM December 21st. In the Eastern time zone it occurs at 1:09 AM December 22nd. Don't worry about getting the time exactly right. These energies are so strong you'll be able to feel them for days. What will all this mean for you? It depends on your chart, how and where your chart is aspected by this line-up. Certainly we're all rethinking what motivates us now, and just what is it that DOES bring us JOY? If you can get a handle on that, follow that path. But it's about more than just what brings us joy. The bigger question is how can we all contribute to raising our consciousness, so the planet we live on can be sustained, and do this in a way that brings us joy?
Also remember that Pluto is about to change signs into Capricorn on January 26th, another rare cycle which hasn't happened since 1762. We've had Pluto in the sign of Sagittarius since November 1995, transforming our beliefs, our social and cultural institutions (like education, the legal system and medicine), and our international situation. Now we will get to transform the structures of our world, including the structures and processes of business, governments, and capitalism.
Where will all of this lead? Hopefully to a planet that can be sustained, instead of destroyed by our businesses, governments, consumers, and capitalism! If this doesn't happen between now and 2024 when Pluto moves into Aquarius, we'll all be in big trouble. In fact it looks like we could be in big trouble sooner than that, between 2012 - 2015 when we get the radical and revolutionary energies of Uranus square Pluto. If anything can propel us in the right direction to assist the planet, it'll be that cycle, when revolutions will be the order of the day. I'm not talking about revolutions that occur with
guns. I'm talking about a revolution in our consciousness. That's the only thing that can save this planet and our lives, along with everything else that lives on Earth
