It was a sad day when the world lost its King Of Pop. If you ever been to one of my shows, then you know that Michael Jackson has been a staple in my DJ diet since I first started spinning way back in '84. Thus, while I didn't break down and cry, I did feel a sense of loss when I heard the news of his death. I'm old enough to remember The Jacksons doing "Dancing Machine" on Soul Train (see video below) and being blown away by Michael Jackson's moves; he was a true Dancing Machine. And while many people incorrectly credit him with inventing the Moonwalk (it was actually invented by a member of the Rock Steady Crew), I do believe Michael Jackson perfected it, and I still get chills seeing him bust it out during his performance of Billie Jean at the Grammys. He fuckin' killed that shit.
So, as a tribute to (cliche alert!) Michael Jackson's musical legacy, I decided that my show this Saturday @ Pearl Lounge in Eureka is going to be HEAVILY fortified with all kindsa MJ (plus, the Journal fucked up and printed "80's Night"- urrrgh!). Also Twisted Kid DJ Gerber-mizz-ack will be joining me on the wheels of steel that night (HE might break down and cry), and he will be bringing with him his MJ collection. I dunno how deep his goes, but I'll be bringing Jackson 5 albums I forgot I had, as well as some straight Jacksons (the stuff BEFORE Michael went solo), and of course, "Off The Wall, "Thriller" and " BAD" and a slew of remixes and 12".
It's not going to be all MJ all night, of course, but if you're a fan of the man and his music, and you like to dance and merry-make, this is a night you don't want to miss.
That's this Saturday 10pm - 2am @ Pearl Lounge in Old Town EKA. No cover!
Yours truly,
Napoleon Dynamite

Re: This Saturday 7/11 @ Pearl Lounge: Tribute to Michael Jackson
Mon, July 13, 2009 - 10:46 PMSo how'd it go? Any chance there were some set mixes recorded?? My partner and I were at a wedding, otherwise we would have been there! She's gonna die when she hears this was happening. ;^)
