Does anyone know him? I've seen him several times in town and he creeps me out because he only talks to my toddler. I don't like the way he looks at her.

Re: Man playing violin in the forest
Fri, March 28, 2008 - 2:42 PMI've seen him a few times, never had a problem. I would rather people didn't make noise in the forest, I usually go to there to enjoy some nature and get away from human noise, there are far cooler sounds to listen to when in the trees! -

Re: Man playing violin in the forest
Sat, March 29, 2008 - 1:32 PMI just have wondered if anyone knows him. I've never exactly had a problem with him, but we were walking in the forest a couple months ago and ran into him, and he just kept talking to my toddler, and then he came around and cut us off so he could meet up with us again. And I've run into him a few times since. Maybe he's just kind of off. I don't know. Or maybe he's just lonely, but on an instinct level he really bothers me. I really get sex offender vibe. He never has said a word to me or my husband, but he always stares at and talks to my daughter. Anyway.... A heads up for parents, or if someone knows him and can tell me I'm totally off....

Fri, April 4, 2008 - 4:56 PMah yes...in fact i was there the other day and he only talked with my children...then the womyn behind us, smae thing only to her toddler boys. you can go to the sex offender website and maybe that would have some info.....i went there once a coupla years back. 16 registered in arcata at that time. there were 36 in mckinleyville and over 130 in eureka. crazy. actually i just posted a similar post about another ify guy and people went wild and wanted me to delete the post. trippy. anyhoo, i say go with yer gut all ways and things will be fine.
p.s. i like to go tho the forest for quite as well. ;) -

Re: Man playing violin in the forest
Fri, April 4, 2008 - 11:11 PMIt's so funny, I was reading these posts, and although I'd seen the guy playing in the forest before, I never had a distinctive face for him.
Anyways, I was walking in the park yesterday, and there was the guy playing the violin (poorly and screechingly). I've totally seen him around town, and talked to him before. I've never gotten the sex offender vibe (not that you shouldn't check the websites, just in case). He has actually talked to me on several occasions, and one time even asked me to go into a pizza place for him or something to get his order because "he couldn't go in there". I honestly get waaaaaay more of the schizophrenic vibe from him. Sometimes he says hi when I see him, like yesterday in the forest, and other times he's off in his own spacy world seeming completely oblivious to what's going on around him. I wouldn't ever leave a child in his care, but if you're just walking by, I think he's pretty harmless.

Re: Man playing violin in the forest
Wed, April 9, 2008 - 3:24 PMThe guy is nuts!
Stay far far away...
He's been banned from many a small business in arcata...he's bad news...
He comes off as friendly and non-threatening, then <SNAP> he goes ballistic on some customer service worker with crazy conspiracy theories. He can also get extremely violent. He's banned from Mokka (where I've worked for the past 8 yrs.). We actually needed police assistance to deal with his crazy ass. Whenever he sees my co-worker in town, he still tries to start a confrontation with him and screams and yells at him in a threatening manner.
dude is seriously messed up....and no, I'm not going to have sympathy for him...
I'm sick of being harassed an abused by wookies and crazies just because I work in the service industry...enough! -

Re: Man playing violin in the forest
Thu, April 17, 2008 - 5:58 PMawww... i have some friends that call that guy Satan after an incident they had with him when they were innocently tripping out in Redwood park. His violin is nice to hear from afar on dates in the redwoods, but face to face (espically intoxicated) this guy definatly has the creeper peeper vibe. -

Re: Man playing violin in the forest
Sun, April 20, 2008 - 8:38 PMHmm...
I think I've met this David too. I work at the Clothing Dock and he drops in sometimes to look, and gives heavy conversation. He's really intelligent, and I've actually learned a few things I didn't know about nutrition from him. But when he talks...wow, he unloads. I feel dominated by it, and so every time he comes in I respond with this heavy emotional repulsion, which I'd like to surmount, because he seems interesting. And if this same person plays violin in the forest: it's exquisite, I head it once and was enthralled. I didn't feel he was creepy, definitely negative at times, definitely odd: I assume he talks so much because he's not good at communicating, and therefore not very well acquainted with 'the social order' of things. But there's a lot of people like that here in Arcata, right? I think I'm here 'cause I'm one of them. But I trust the mamas to be wary: smart of them...

Re: Man playing violin in the forest
Sun, April 20, 2008 - 10:07 PMHe hitchhikes pretty often, and I always pick him up. He is an interesting dude, and I love talking to him about music, he knows a lot about it. I always thought it was sax case he carried, but now I know its a violin cool. He is a pretty nice guy, but I could see him going crazy...but I personally trust him.

Re: Man playing violin in the forest
Tue, November 25, 2008 - 7:59 PMI talk to this man almost every night. I've have great conversations with him about the many books he reads. I'm a female and in the wide variety of subject we go over nothing perverted ever comes up. Regardless how you he vibes you I've never found anything wrong with this guy. I've heard all this molester nonsense before and I've looked for him on the sex offender list and he's not on it!!!!! I've lived in Arcata now for about two years and how open this community is it shocks me that people would be so judgemental. People should be careful before discussion strangers this way because you don't like their excentricities or because you don't like a conversation you've had with someone. -

Re: Man playing violin in the forest
Thu, November 27, 2008 - 3:02 PMyou guys are dicks for picking on some random violin guy. Ever think maybe its his passion maybe he lives in a small space so he cant play at home ....and maybe he just likes talking to people. Sometimes when I bump into adults they're so boring I ramble on to their kids, sometimes kids have more insight to the world than adults...but flat out callin someone a chilli mo is whack. Judge yourself before others.

Re: Man playing violin in the forest
Thu, December 4, 2008 - 1:08 PMOk, my question is this: If he's so darn nice, then why is he banned from MOST of the establishments in town and has to ask other people to go inside and buy things for him? The general thing I've heard is he flips out and that's why he's been banned.
I'm sorry, he gives me the way schizo vibe and since this thread started when I've asked him to please leave me alone because I don't want to be his go between for a store he's gotten pretty upset with me. So I was obviously wrong about him being harmless.
I've been harassed by enough crazy folks in this town. This is the only place I've ever been where tweakers and schizos get more respect than normal people, and there are enough of them around that they gang up on you. It's messed up and I'm personally sick of it. I've had panic attacks after being harassed by people like him and been persecuted for it when it was MY safety being compromised. I've had transients threaten to slash my tires if I didn't buy them donuts. Maybe these are reasons why we're all so negative about people who bother us in public like this guy does. -

Re: Man playing violin in the forest
Fri, December 5, 2008 - 8:27 AMSometimes on the town square I wonder if some of the groups of guys standing around asking for change might start a fight or try to rob me or something. I just keep walking. Mostly they are friendly. The worst that ever happened was when one called my friend Gilligan as we were walking into the Alibi. We all started laughing and Darran was like "Gilligan? Who's Gilligan?" He's from London & real skinny and was wearing a red and white striped shirt. I still call him Gilligan occasionally just for kicks. -

Re: Man playing violin in the forest
Fri, December 5, 2008 - 1:28 PMSee, I'm from NY and getting robbed was the kind of stuff I grew up worrying about, being a girl I didn't worry about fights too much. I just avoided them. I learned to be aware of my surroundings, not openly carry cash, hold my purse in certain ways to keep it from getting grabbed, etc. I NEVER had to deal with the crazy kind of harassment that goes on here. Once you've had a total stranger be nice one minute and then flip on you and assault you for no good reason other than they're wacked out, you won't look at anybody a little bit off as safe anymore. -

Sat, June 27, 2009 - 5:56 PMLeave it to a perv in the forest to get the most response. Noone ever responds to anyones posts on this tribe. It kind of sucks. Maybe everyone is too stoned to give a fuck. Who knows? The funniest thing I've seen on this tribe is someone calling the Plaza peeps Plazoids. : )
